Mildred Juilette Evans Burrell of Bessemer, Alabama earned her wings on November 5, 2016 on her 93rd birthday.
Mildred was born on November 5, 1923 to Wade Hampton and Annie Syleena Evans in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the youngest of seven children.
She was a graduate of Parker High School in Birmingham in 1941. Following high school she followed her sisters in the nursing and medical field until retirement. Over the years she has remained in close contact with her classmates.
She married Sanders Eugene Colston in 1942 and from that union her only child was born Sandra Elaine Colston Butler.
She was a dedicated mother, sister and friend. At an early age she gave her life over to Christ and remained a devoted member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama her entire life. She was huge participant in the Brighton Community in Bessemer, Alabama where she resided in later years.
She was predeceased by her only daughter, Sandra Elaine Colston Butler. She leaves behind her only granddaughter Apryl Butler Bennings (Larsell Scott Bennings Sr.), great-grandchildren Kayla, Taniahya, Larsell Jr., great-great grandson Amir, niece Ann Wilkes (Wilford), nephew Javaris Polk, goddaughter Beverly King along with a host of family and friends.
In 2005 she moved to Atlanta to be closer to her children. This is where she enjoyed her better years teaching, telling stories, providing advice and giving orders to those around her. Her flare for fashion, style and flamboyance was remarkable. Her soft, high pitched voice was her trademark. It will never be forgotten.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 12 Noon at Valhalla Chapel with Minister William Hill officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Valhalla Funeral Home. The repast will be immediately following the service.
