age 72, of Midfield, passed away on Sep. 25, 2006. She contracted polio at age 10. She was a graduate of Jones-Valley High School. She was a member of Wilkes Baptist Church and was the organist at Gardendale/Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church of over 40 years. Ms. Sparks was a graduate of Birmingham Southern and played the organ for the Birmingham Southern Alumni Choir on tours. She also taught music from her home for many years and had her recitals at the School of Music at Birmingham Southern. Survivors include: brother James C. (Ruth) Sparks, Jr. of Wayne, NJ; sister Mary Elizabeth Flemming of Prattville,Al; nephews Phillip W. Flemming of Prattville,Al, Kelly Sparks of Bloomfield,NJ, Patrick Sparks of NJ, Michael Sparks of Hunnington, WV; four cousins Martha Harbin of Indian Trail, NC, Doris Stephens of Charlotte, NC, Bobbi Starns of Canton, GA, Elene Chastain of Gadsden,AL, and numerous friends. Pallbearers will be Phillip Flemming, Michael Sparks, Bill Barron, Jesse Edwards, Willum Fowler, Jerry Swafford. Visitation will be Sat., Sep. 30 from 2:00 pm till 3:00 pm with a Chapel Service at 3:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home with burial at Valhalla Cemetery. Dr. William Bostic officiating. Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes or the Norwood Clinic.
