My dear friend and mother peacefully passed away Thursday September 15th, 2016 while in loving care. The last few months of her life saw her in and out of the hospital in her battle with cancer but it never really slowed her down until near the end. She delighted in her civic work, travel and being with friends and family.
She retired some years ago from AmSouth Bank (Regions), served on three Board of Directors, received city of Bessemer Ambassador award, Outstanding Civic award, Women''s Club, sang in the Young at Heart Choir and was an active member of the Canaan Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Suzette Pate-Hetzer and husband Steven, brother Hosey Hutson and wife Susan. Also, the numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and those of you who were like family to her.
Special thanks to Barbara Harper Whitman, Kay Baggett and Ron Toner who took time from their lives to help and care for her these past months.

Cancer still takes so many lives each year, so we respectfully request in lieu of flowers that donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.

A remembrance will be held Wednesday September 21st at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Valhalla Funeral Home, followed immediately by internment in the adjoining cemetery. Preceding the remembrance will be a visitation from 1-2 P.M.
