Norma Jane Carr Snider of Birmingham, Alabama went to be with our Lord on August 15, 2024. Jane was born November 15, 1938, the daughter of the late Walter
and Mary Osborn Carr of Bessemer, Alabama. She is survived by husband Bobby
Edward Snider; sons Robert Andrew Snider and Thomas Walter Snider (Dallas); two
granddaughters Breanna and Callie Snider; brother Joey Scannelly and several nieces
and nephews.
After first attending Auburn University, she later earned both her BS and MA degrees
from UAB. She found her calling enjoying a 38-year career as an educator. She served
for 25 years at Bryan Elementary as a kindergarten teacher, as she truly loved children
and the gift of being their teacher in their early and formative years. She was blessed
to teach at Bryan Elementary long enough to have children of some of those in her
first classes in her classroom during her final years at Bryan Elementary. She was
named Teacher of the Year by Bryan Elementary and Jefferson County Teacher of the
Year. Following retirement from Jefferson County, she went on to teach with Hoover
City Schools for another 13 years. November 10, 1993, was declared Ms. Snider's
Kindergarten Class Day by then-Governor Jim Folsom. She was a member of Kappa
Delta Epsilon and Kappa Delta Pi honorary professional education organizations.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
at Riverchase Church of Christ. In place of flowers, memorials can be made to St.
Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html).
