Mrs. Pauline Turner Pettway was born November 17, 1928, in the City of Troy, Pike County, Alabama and was the second child born to Webster B. and Della May Turner. She attended Helicon Training Primary School and Macedonia Elementary School in Pike County. The family moved to Birmingham, Alabama, in 1941 where she finished her schooling at Graymont Elementary and A.H. Parker High School.
Pauline joined Macedonia C.M.E. Church at the age of nine. After moving to Birmingham she joined Brown Memorial C.M.E Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Junior Choir and one of the lead singers with the Williams Gospel Singers.
Pauline met Thomas Pettway and they married on April 12, 1952. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1962. While in Cleveland she joined Cory United Methodist Church in 1962 where she served on different committees; the Building Committee, United Methodist Women, Financial Secretary for Ruth Circle UMW, Finance Committee and was a volunteer of Cory's Kitchen where families in need was fed the last seven days of each month. She was also a member of Queen Ester Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star since 1968 and was Matron of Elizabeth Chapter #15 and was Grand Conductors of Queen Ester Order of Eastern Star and past Grand Lecturer for Queen Ester Order of Eastern Star. She was the former most ancient Matron of Palm Court of Herion of Jericho #2 and a member of Kyria Sphinx Fatima Court #1. She also initiated the Turner May Family Reunion Scholarship Fund. She relocated back to Birmingham in 2011 where she joined St. James AME Church and supported all auxiliaries and committees.
Pauline went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 19, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Webster B. and Della May Turner; her husband, Thomas Pettway; three sisters, Darnella Storey, Annette Alexander and Yvonne Turner; one brother, Webster B. Turner, Jr. and stepmother, Allie Mae Turner.
She is survived by two sisters, Cordia Clark of Birmingham, AL and Hattie (Joseph) Lewis of Macon, Georgia; two brothers, Eddie Turner of Atlanta, GA, and Johnnie (Monique) Turner of Sarasota, FL; two dedicated nieces, Cordenia Hendon and Shirley Gibson and a host of other nieces, nephews, church family and relatives and friends.
