Peggy Joyce Burns Porter, age 89, of Hoover went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Shelby Baptist Hospital.

Ms. Porter was a native of Bessemer where she lived most of her life. She resided at the Galleria Woods Retirement Community in Hoover. She was a member of Sun View Baptist Church in Pelham and was retired from the Bessemer School System. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Porter (former Mayor of Bessemer), parents, Martin Otis Burns and Sudie Jones Burns;  two daughters, Kathy Jane Porter and Lynda Porter Jones; a grandson, Tyler Porter; four sisters, Mary Inman (Robert), Edith Carter (Jesse), Elizabeth "Doodle" Burke (Winfred); and Mildred Martin (Ray); a brother, John Burns (Dorothy).

She is survived by her son, Eddie Porter (Angie); three grandchildren; Kendall Jones (John), Lissy Law (Brian), and Luke Porter; great grandchildren; John Austin Jones, Molly Jones, Porter Law, and Peyton Law; her special pet, "Chipper," a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and members of her church family of Sun View Baptist Church.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 12 Noon at Valhalla Cemetery with Pastor Mark Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 11:00 A.M. to 12 Noon at Valhalla Funeral Home.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Sun View Baptist Church, 1940 Co. Road 33, Suite D, Pelham, Alabama  35124.
