Robert Kenneth Burnette, age 79, of Hueytown died on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Self Nursing Home in Hueytown. He was born in Birmingham on February 12, 1938. He served eight years in the United States Navy, achieved rank of Petty Officer 3rd class. He traveled around the world and crossed the equator numerous times. He served two tours in Vietnam as a Merchant Marine and then worked 38 years for the Army Corp of Engineers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Burnette.
Mr. Burnette is suvived by a daughter, Betty Bennett (husband, Kevin Bennett); two sons, Wade McRee (Wife, Judy McRee) and George McRee (wife, Christina McRee); Grandsons; Adam Rayford, Tony Rayford, Skylar Bennett, Jonathon McRee, Waylon McRee, Jamie Campbell, Joey Campbell, and Jason Campbell; granddaughters, Jennifer Gibson and Crystal McRee; 15 great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Brannon (husband, Bill Brannon); nieces, Cherry Brannon, Doralee Shive (husband, Bryan Shive); and two great nieces, Esther Shive and Anna Shive.
Services will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 12 Noon at Valhalla Chapel with Earl Goode officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Valhalla Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
