Dr. Robert Marion Phillips, 89, of Hueytown, Alabama passed away Tuesday September 7,
2021. Born in Bessemer, AL, Robert graduated from Bessemer High School and after serving
as a sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, returned home to complete
his college education at Birmingham Southern College where he met and fell in love with his
wife Jackie. Upon graduation from BSC he received his DMD from the University of Alabama
School of Dentistry and practiced in Bessemer, AL for 46 years. "Boog," as he was known to
his family and friends was preceded in death by his parents Hassell O. Phillips, Sr. and Mary
Ellen Phillips, his brother, Hassell O. Phillips Jr., sister-in-law Joyce Hardin Phillips and
nephews Mark H. Phillips and Carey A. Phillips. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jackie
Carroll Phillips; his son Greg Phillips (Paige); brother, James M. Phillips (Rosalie); sister, Mary
Jane Herring; and his three granddaughters, Haley Neal (Blake), Katie Gann (Jameson), and
Abby Hand (Connor); great grandchildren Brewer and Elliott Neal and Grayson Gann and
several nieces and nephews who were very special to him. The family is very grateful to all of
his hospice and home health care workers.
