Robert E. "Pete" Reaves, age 82 of McCalla, Alabama, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019 in the comforts of his home. He was surrounded by family and peacefully went to be with our Lord. Pete was an amazing man with many talents. He was an engineer and was quite innovative in his field. Also, many remember him from his glory days at Bessemer High and on the field at the University of Alabama. Robert E. "Pete" Reaves was a well known athlete back in his day! You might remember or have heard about his glory days at Bessemer High and on the field of the University of Alabama. Dad was an all-around athlete from basketball, baseball and football. He received his football scholarship to U of A in 1955  and played baseball & football at Bama. His Senior year was under Bear Bryant's first year as coach at Bama. He was often referred to as "Pistol Pete" after kicking a field goal to help win the game. His first 3 years were under Coach "Ears" Whitworth. Back in September, U of A hosted the 1958 Alabama Football team 60 year reunion. It was an amazing day for him and he said then it would be his last time on the field. All of his family is heartbroken but know he and Bear Bryant are talking football in Heaven!

Pete was a loving husband and father. He was extremely intelligent and could do anything he put his mind to. Pete always provided well for his family. He taught his children integrity, that you were only as good as your word, to work hard and that actions speak louder than words. Pete had a personal-ity that could light up a room with laughter or one that with one look you just had to stand up straight. He had a good, full life and his legacy will live on.

Pete is survived by his loving wife, Sondra Carter Reaves; four children: Lloyd Reaves, Wes Reaves, Donna Igo and Darla Hurst; 6 grandchildren, 7 greats, 7 great-great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and dear close friends.

Funeral Services will be under the direction of Valhalla Funeral Home of Bessemer, Al, on Friday, October 25, 2019 with Pastor Allen Head officiating. Visitation is from 12:00-2:00pm with services following at 2:00.
