age 87, of Alabaster AL passed away on December 23, 2006 at a local hospital. He was a loving husband , father, grandfather, and brother. Bob was born February 2, 1919 in Adger, AL, and raised in Birmingham. He joined the Marine Corps in 1939. He saw action during World War II, including the Battle for Iwo Jimo and Guadalcanal. He also saw action during the Korean War. He retired from service in 1964 as a master sergeant. He returned to Birmingham, AL and attended St. Johns Episcopal Church where he was affectionately known as "Bob the Baptist." One of eleven children, Bob was a strong believer in the importance of family. A devoted husband, and father he spent much of his free time tending to the ill infirm among his kind folds and extended family at St. John's He was known to many as "Uncle Bob." He was always quick with a joke and smile as he sipped his favorite beverage, Iced Tea. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nettie Voyles Roland and John Henry Roland. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol J. Roland of ALabaster, AL; his son Kenneth L. (Frances) Roland of St. Louis, MO; brother Claude A. (Peggy) Roland of Alabaster, AL; sisters, Peggy Joyce (Joseph) Roland of Milipitas, CA, niece, Claudette J. Roland of Helena, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Graveside service is at Oakland Cemetery, December 27, 2006 at 11:30 am. Burial in Ensley, AL, Father Lee Lawley officiating.
