Obituary

MCGLAWN, SARAH COGGINS, age 74 of Birmingham, went home to be with the Lord on May 3, 2010. She was born near Lafayette, Alabama. She graduated from Chambers County High School and from Southern Union College. She was an Elder at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Midfield, Alabama, where she has been a longtime member. She retired from Re-Entry Ministries and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She was the first women's Lay Director of Living Waters Walk to Emmaus. She was active in the Singing Group at Second Presbyterian Church, Homewood and in the Jefferson County Singing Convention. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Mary Lizzie Coggins of Lafayette, AL. Survived by husband: Jack W. McGlawn of 53 years, daughters, Donna Sibley (Dan) of Birmingham, Lynn Ferguson (Rhett) of Prattville, Alabama, son Rev. Jerol Burt McGlawn (Rayenell) of Warren, Ohio; grandchildren, Benjamin Sibley, Laura Sibley, Scott Ferguson, Troy Ferguson, Holly McGlawn Zoller (David), and Emily McGlawn; great-grandchild, Adeline Sarah Zoller; one brother, Coy Coggins (Diane), of Resaca Georgia and a host of friends and relatives. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Living Waters Walk to Emmaus or Meals on Wheels of Jefferson County. Visitation will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home, on Thursday, May 6th from 5:30-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 7th at 11 a.m. with graveside service at Highlands Memorial Gardens. A dinner will follow at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church.
