Virginia Mae Ellis Beard

May 21, 1921 - September 13, 2014

Virginia Ellis Beard, 93, of Sumiton, long-time resident of Birmingham, AL went to be with our Lord and Savior Saturday, September 13, 2014. She joined her husband of 57 years, James Arthur Beard, Sr.; daughter, Linda Beard Adams; grandchildren Leann Nesmith Ashworth and Robert (Danny) Daniel Beard; and great-grandson Brett Raymond Upchurch.

She leaves behind her daughter, Janice B. Nesmith (Ron) of Sumiton, AL and sons James "Jim" A. Beard, Jr. (Penny) of Gardendale, AL and Robert A. Beard (Diane) of Quinton, AL along with 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

She was originally from Massey Line then resided in East Lake where she graduated from Woodlawn High School and Howard Business College. She was one of the first women to work for the Birmingham U. S. Postal Service where she retired. She attended Dora Church of God.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. with services beginning at 12:00 P.M at Dora Church of God, 2360 Sharon Road, Dora, AL 35062. Pastor Lewis Smith will officiate with Rev. Dale Horton assisting. Family graveside following.
