Virginia Hill McDougal,was born in Ravenna,Kentucky on May 22,1924,to the late Hugh C. and Effie B. Hill. She graduated from Estill High School in Irvine,Kentucky in 1942 and in that same year her father's job L. & N. Railroad tranferred the family to Birmingham,Alabama.She graduated from the Stenotype Business Institute in Birmingham. After marrying her late husband John L. McDougal,in 1955 they moved to the Texas Panhandle where they resided for 35 years along with her late John Michael McDougal. Besides her working career she did free-lance writing and was published in Back Home in Kentucky,Focus Magazine Pampa,Texas,Borger News-Herald Borger,Texas and The Amarillo Globe-Times Amarillo,Texas where her poem Thanksgiving ,appeared on the front page,which is unusual for poem. She wrote and published her childhood autobiography Footsteps Through Childhood with Jenny,doing both the cover design and illustrations for the book. She was preceded in death by husband John L. and son John Michael McDougal. She is survived by her grandson Michael McDougal. Public visitation will be held on Thursday,June 29, 2023 from 11am until 12noon,with chapel services starting at 12noon,all these services will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home. Burial will be immediately following services in Valhalla Cemetery.
