Wanda Faye Thomas was born on February 12, 1950.to the late Vallie and Ora Lee Thomas. At an early age, Wanda
accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior where she joined New
Salem Missionary Baptist Church. She was President of the
Usher Board and President of the Trustee Committee until death.
She received her formal education in the Bessemer School
System. She attended George Washington Carver High School
but later integrated in 1966 to Bessemer High School and
graduated in 1968. She went on to further her education at
Alabama (A & M) Agricultural and Mechanical University,
where she received her Bachelor's Degree in 1972 and Alabama
State University in 1973, graduating with her Master's in
Education. She believed every child deserved an education. She
worked in the Shelby County School System and retired after 30
years of service.
Wanda was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend
to everyone. She never met a stranger. She was everyone's
personal diary, chef, and so much more.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Beulah Rhone;
brothers, Willie Rhone and Richard Thomas.
On Thursday, August 29, 2024 the Lord needed his angel.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her only child, Misha
(Larry) Thomas-Dew; grandchildren, Kayla Thomas, Kamra
Thomas, Brian Barnes, and Jessica Dew, great grandchildren,
Zouri and Zion Thomas, Amari, Harmonie, Micah and Isabella
Dew; five brothers, Walter Rhone, Vallie Cunningham, Luevone
Thomas, Jerry Thomas and Terry (Chandra) Thomas; a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
